Indications yesterday were that Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” would once again comfortably rule the domestic box-office weekend whilst Paramount Pictures’ “A Quiet Place: Day One” would debut in second place.
That’s still likely, but will be a much closer call as with further revenue coming on, estimates are being revised with Pixar slipping down and the horror/thriller film shooting up.
Yesterday’s estimates had “Inside Out 2” at $60 million for the weekend with “A Quiet Place: Day One” at $48 million. That’s now changed with “Inside Out 2” heading for a weekend closer to $55 million or just a little over, and the third “A Quiet Place” film headed for a $53 million debut.
The latter landed a B+ CinemaScore which seems worrying at first, until you realise it’s the same exit score from audiences that the first film received.
Sadly not getting a bump is Kevin Costner’s first of his four-chapter western epic “Horizon”. The film is tracking for an estimated $11.3M opening which is not good for a film costing above $100 million.
Also not good is that the film scored a B- CinemaScore from audiences, which is a far cry from the A- of his “Open Range” film in 2002. Plenty of reviews have criticised the film as feeling more like a miniseries.
Hindi film “Kalki 2898 AD” looks to come in fifth place at $5.8 million.
