Emmy nominee Anthony Carrigan (“Gotham,” “Barry”) has scored the series regular role of Calypso in the second season of Peacock’s game-to-series adaptation “Twisted Metal”. The project marks Carrigan’s first major TV role since wrapping “Barry”.
He’s one of four new additions to the cast, three others being recurring guest roles for Richard de Klerk (“Strange Empire”), Tiana Okoye (“Mrs. Davis”) and comedian/writer/actress Patty Guggenheim who stole the show with her role as ditzy party girl Madisynn in “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”.
In the original PlayStation game series, Calypso was one of the main antagonists and will likely serve in that capacity here. He’s described as the “mysterious, charismatic host and creator of a dangerous demolition derby tournament” – an event everyone can participate in.
The series unfolds in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Anthony Mackie plays John Doe, a talkative milkman with amnesia, who is given a mission to traverse the desolate United States to deliver a mysterious package.
The first season, which launched in July last year, also starred Stephanie Beatriz, Neve Campbell, Thomas Haden Church, and both Joe Seanoa and Will Arnett in the role of psychotic killer clown Sweet Tooth.
They’re all expected back for the second season which will shoot this Fall in Toronto. The series is written and executive produced by Michael Jonathan Smith, who is also serving as the showrunner.
Critics reviews of the first season were mixed-positive but audiences really liked it and within two weeks it had become Peacock’s “most-binged” comedy premiere to date.
