Former “The Good Place” star and current “The Acolyte” actor Manny Jacinto is in talks to join the long-awaited sequel “Freaky Friday 2” at Disney Pictures.
Nisha Ganatra (“Late Night,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) directs the new film which sees Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprising their roles from the 2003 body-swap comedy which grossed $160 million worldwide.
Both the overall plot and specifics of Jacinto’s role are under wraps. The new script by Jordan Weiss is said to bring a multi-generational approach to the story.
Curtis and Lohan have long spoken about hopes for a sequel, but serious talks only began recently. Julia Butters is also in talks for a role.
Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr are producing and filming on the sequel will commence this summer in Los Angeles. It’s not yet clear if this will be a theatrical or direct to Disney+ streaming play.
The 2003 film, itself a remake of the 1976 movie with Jodie Foster as the daughter and Barbara Harris as the mother, pulled in a worldwide gross of over $160 million.
Curtis played a single mother and uptight psychiatrist who ends up body swapping with her rebellious teenage daughter for a single day.
