A new feature piece in The Hollywood Reporter summarising the upcoming live-action adaptation of 2002’s Disney’s animated hit “Lilo & Stitch” has revealed one surprise.
The trade report indicates the film is in post-production, as expected, but also confirms it is coming out this year after all with the movie to premiere directly on the Disney+ service.
The project was first proposed in 2018 but the pandemic caused delays, as did a shift of writer and director with Chris Kekaniokalani Bright ultimately penning and Dean Fleischer Camp directing.
It picked up steam in mid-2022, only for a fire on set to stall things for months. Filming finally began in April and then was paused after a few weeks by the strikes. Filming didn’t resume for months but the project finally wrapped back in March.
Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizebeth Adugong, Kaipot Dudoit, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen and Courtney B. Vance star.
Disney has yet to release any publicity material from the film so no word as to what it will look like just yet.
