Lionsgate’s president of worldwide television distribution Jim Packer is out there pushing the upcoming spin-off of his studio’s film and TV production and library business.
Speaking at the Gabelli Media & Entertainment Symposium, Packer waxed lyrical about the IP-focused company that will produce and distribute film and TV.
He also touted one title in particular – the Antoine Fuqua-directed Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” which they studio has set for an April 2025 release.
Packer says: “The buzz that we’re getting every time a photo gets released is kind of crazy. And I think that’ll be the biggest movie we’ve ever had.”
Packer also says “The Hunger Games” movie series is the studio’s most important IP: “We’ve taken that franchise and it doesn’t map to Harry Potter, but from a financial standpoint and an IP standpoint, it’s as important to us as Harry Potter is to Warner Bros.”
Packer’s comments followed the annoucement of a new film in the saga due for release late 2026.
