A new feature piece about “The Last of Us” creator Neil Druckmann in The LA Times has revealed that his company Naughty Dog has some big plans.

Since the release of “The Last of Us Part II” in 2020 to high critical acclaim, mixed audience reaction, and the Game of the Year award, Naughty Dog has remained mostly radio silent.

It was known the “Uncharted”-creating company was working on a live service title set within “The Last of Us” universe, but those plans were scrapped back in December.

Since then there have been teases of something new – but it has been unclear if it was “The Last of Us Part III” or a new title. Turns out it might be both.

Druckmann, in the new interview, says: “I promise you, we will not be ‘The Last of Us’ studio forever” and added that “multiple single-player projects” were in the works.

He also explains the company’s mission statement with games: “We create experiences that are steeped in story and character, especially relationships. The stories have some sort of philosophical core that everything is going to revolve around and feed into.”

This interview follows in the wake of another interview Druckmann gave with PlayStation which resulted in a public rebuttal by him over the company heavily editing his answers to the point of misquoting him.

Druckmann is currently working on the second season of HBO’s TV series adaptation of “The Last of Us”.
