Though the release is still two months away, it hasn’t stopped Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” from already breaking records.
THR reports that the title, which put tickets on sale on Monday, has broken pre-sales records with AMC Theaters CEO Adam Aron revealing the news in a statement on social media.
He confirmed the title has already sold roughly 200,000 tickets, far more than any other R-rated movie ever. Fandango also says that the opening day sales were the best of 2024, the best for an R-rated feature, as well as a new high for the “Deadpool” franchise.
The trade’s sources indicate the film has generated between $8-9 million on opening day of pre-sales, and is expected to have an opening weekend domestic debut above $100 million – something no film has achieved so far this year.
The film also looks to have the potential to become one of the highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time. The first two films landed at $782 million and $785 million respectively.
Marketing has ramped up this week with regular videos ranging from TV spots to beer ads to new stills. “Deadpool & Wolverine” opens in theaters on July 26th.
