A24 has scored the U.S. rights to “The Death of Robin Hood,” picking up the project from this year’s Cannes market.
The story is described as a grounded, visceral and darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale. Set of its time, the film will see the title character grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.
Now he’s a battle-worn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at salvation.
Filmmaker Michael Sarnoski (“Pig,” “A Quiet Place: Day One”) penned and will direct the film which Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett and Alexander Black will produce.
Production is due to begin in February next year with Lyrical Media fully financing. A24 will release the film theatrically, winning what was some highly competitive negotiations with multiple buyets.
Jackman will next be seen this summer in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” whilst Comer will be in “The Bikeriders”.
