Ahead of his highly buxxed about horror thriller “Longlegs” hitting cinemas in July, NEON is once again getting into business with actor-turned-filmmaker Oz Perkins (“Gretel & Hansel,” “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House,” “The Blackcoat’s Daughter”).
The distributor recently acquired the filmmaker’s soon-to-shoot “Keeper” and now they’ve also picked up his upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s short story “The Monkey” which wrapped shooting back in March.
Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campell, and Sarah Levy star in “The Monkey” which follows twin brothers who discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic.
Soon a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them and they throw away the toy to move on with their lives. Years later when the mysterious deaths begin again, the brothers reunite to find a way to destroy the toy.
“Keeper” will shoot this Fall with Maslany and Rossif Sutherland playing a couple escaping for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin only to be haunted by the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin’s horrifying secrets.
The news comes as NEON has also today acquired the North American rights to Mohammad Rasoulof thriller “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” with plans for a theatrical release later this year.
