There’s no question that working on a “Mad Max” film is incredibly difficult.

2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” is now just as famous for its behind-the-scenes struggles filming in Namibia for many months as it was for the action film masterpiece that resulted from those efforts.

By all reports, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” seems to have been a slightly smoother production with co-stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth getting along well and production in Australia going smoothly in comparison to ‘Fury Road’.

That said, it was also said to be a tough and lengthy shoot with difficult weather conditions throughout. In new interview with The New York Times, the film’s star Anya Taylor-Joy was asked about those challenges and says it was so hard she can’t talk about it yet:

“I’ve never been more alone than making that movie. I don’t want to go too deep into it, but everything that I thought was going to be easy was hard. Next question, sorry. Talk to me in 20 years. Talk to me in 20 years.”

A part of that was her extremely limited lines with the character only said to have around 30 lines of dialogue throughout the film. That resulted in a lot of eye acting:

“I do want to 100% preface this by saying I love George and if you’re going to do something like this, you want to be in the hands of someone like George Miller.

But he had a very, very strict idea of what Furiosa’s war face looked like, and that only allowed me my eyes for a large portion of the movie. It was very much ‘mouth closed, no emotion, speak with your eyes.’ That’s it, that’s all you have.”

She says the hard experience is something everyone who has shot a “Mad Max” film is familiar with:

“I will never regret this experience, on so many different levels, but it’s a very particular story to have. There’s not everyone in the world that has made a ‘Mad Max’ movie, and I swear to God, everyone that I’ve met that has, there’s a look in our eyes: We know. There’s an immediate kinship of like, ‘OK, hey, I see you.’”

Early reactions so far have been glowing so all that effort hopefully has paid off. “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” hits cinemas on May 24th.
