Its well-known Rocksteady Studios’ live-service game “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” was a failure at launch, and now Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed how much it has cost them.
In the company’s quarterly financial results announced this morning, they say games revenue declined significantly compared to last year when major single-player best-seller “Hogwarts Legacy” debuted to audience praise and strong sales.
In contrast, “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” was panned by critics and launched to extremely low player numbers which have only headed downwards since. Nine years was spent on the game’s development.
In a follow-up investor-focused call, WBD CEO David Zaslav called the release “disappointing,” while CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels revealed that the game’s failure had a negative effect on company revenue with a $200 million impact to earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.
It’s not clear how long Rocksteady will stay committed to pumping out new content for “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” and their next project hasn’t yet been announced.
