Reviews may be embargoed, but you cannot stop the internet. It remains undefeated. With both a premiere in Sydney, Australia, and a special screening for the US media, the word is leaking out on Furiosa, and the word is good.
The ever-reliable Dark Horizons has gathered together a collection of comments and feedback from these screenings and they are all buzzing:
“Saw @MadMaxMovie FURIOSA last week and loved it. It’s a totally different film from FURY ROAD and would more aptly be compared with the first two MAD MAX films. Likely not quite as easy for casual viewers to jump in, but should still perform well over Memorial Day weekend.”
EmpireCityBo
“‘Furiosa’ is not ‘Fury Road’ and that’s ok. It’s not trying to be. What it is is something uniquely gnarly and yes, epic. I can’t wait to see it again and again and really dig in. All hail George Miller. As for performances, Anya and Hemsworth are fantastic. Tom Burke impresses.”
Josh Horowitz
“Now that I can say so, #Furiosa is a BLAST! Made in the spirit of FURY ROAD, it’s still its own beast that thrives on exaggerated action and characters. Anya Taylor-Joy makes the character her own, but this is Chris Hemsworth’s chance to prove his worth as a character actor.”
Peter Gray
“Brings me great joy to report that Furiosa is really, *really* f—- good. Operates in an extremely different gear than Fury Road (in ways that i suspect will frustrate some people), but also manages to make that movie even richer while carving its own legend in the wasteland.”
David Ehrlich
“Jesus George Miller! #Furiosa engulfs you. At times it almost seems to exceed the canvas of the #IMAX format it is THAT big – and yet at times has a deeply affecting intimacy. Echoing cinematic elements from the 50s through the 80s, it’s a rich, smart vision the cast revels in”
Simon Thomson
“George Miller’s #Furiosa is powerhouse action filmmaking at its absolute best! A ferocious & relentlessly paced epic that expands the story of Furiosa and the Wasteland while delivering the craziest chases, the most bombastic characters & just plain stunning cinematography. There’s one War Rig sequence that blew my mind – an instant classic.”
Erik Davis
“It’s clear very soon that #Furiosa is no Fury Road. The timing is off, the structure shaggy. It’s a little shambolic – but out of a chaotic wasteland comes some characteristically (for George) visceral, dust-baked action, and a memorable showdown between Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy”
Luke Buckmaster
Bear in mind these are early views, and they tend to be positive as the excitement of an early screening can influence reactions. Professional reviews will be dropping in a matter of days.
Tickets for Furiosa are on sale from today ahead of the theater release on May 24th.
