With the actor’s strike officially ending as of 12:01am this morning U.S. Pacific time, studios and production companies have already begun scrambling to get film and TV productions moving again around the world.

After the writer’s strike ended back in September, multiple productions got to work on prep for restarts on films and series that had to pause back in July. As a result, some projects are expected to be up and running in a matter of weeks, potentially days in a few cases.

The rule seems to be that projects that were already in production and had to hit pause take precedence over those that hadn’t started prior to the strike.

Late 2023 Starts
According to Deadline at least five major features are set to go back into production in the very near future – “Deadpool 3” and “Gladiator 2” which are both halfway through filming, “Beetlejuice 2” which has two days left to film, Clint Eastwood’s “Juror No. 2” which has ten days to film, and “Venom 3” which had only 2-3 weeks of filming done before the actor’s strike halted it.

Early 2024 Starts
Other movies are already reportedly locking in very early 2024 dates to resume or start shooting including a third “TRON” film, the Brad Pitt-led F1 film, the “Mortal Kombat” sequel, the Jason Momoa-led “Minecraft” movie, Misha Green’s “Sunflower” and Aziz Ansari’s “Good Fortune”.

DC
James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” was in prep all summer and is now looking at a March start of shooting date for a June 11th 2025 release. Much further back is Andy Muschietti’s Batman film “The Brave and the Bold” which is early enough in development that Muschietti is focused on the “IT” prequel Max series “Welcome to Derry”.

TV
Production on returning series will ramp back up with broadcast TV series going into full prep immediately. Multiple casts and crews have reportedly received notifications of late November and/or early December start dates.

The final season of “Stanger Things” is expected to begin filming within a few weeks. Noah Hawley’s “Alien” series resumes filming in February for an early 2025 release.

Other series being fast-tracked to return to filming are the likes of “The Penguin,” “The Old Man,” “Hacks,” “Hysteria,” “Mayor of Kingstown” and “Emily In Paris”.

Summer 2024 Release Slate
One thing that will likely be seen before the year’s end is a reshuffling of the Summer 2024 film calendar as the studios try to ensure a strong slate of films for the season with whatever product they have to fill the big gaps in next year’s schedule. Actor Ryan Reynolds has confirmed on X that a Summer 2024 release is set for “Deadpool 3” and the character Dogpool is coming to it.

Finally, get ready for an absolute flood of casting news in coming weeks as a surge in talent deals closing is expected to take place and could see plenty of major role announcements for projects.
