Leonardo DiCaprio and environmental activist icon Jane Goodall are set to executive produce the feature “Howl” at Promethean Pictures.

Set against the backdrop of a harsh winter, the movie will follow Harry, a family dog inadvertently left home alone and whose owners then die in an accident.

Harry goes through a rollercoaster survival ride that brings him into contact with a wolf. The pair must overcome their mutual fear and suspicion, and ultimately develop a close bond.

Though there will be some human characters, the story will be animal-led and unfold from their perspective. E. Elias Merhige (“Shadow of the Vampire”) will direct from a script by Christopher Monger (“Temple Grandin”).

Doug Allan (“Frozen Planet”) serves as cinematographer while Merhige, Richard Johns, Pierre-Marcel Blanchot, Léo Maidenberg and Fabrice Lambot produce.

Andrew Simpson (“Game of Thrones,” “The Revenant”) will serve as both wolf whisperer and dog trainer on set. Production is underway now on the project ahead of an early 2026 release.
