Producer Jeff Katz has revealed that a sequel to the 2023 Russell Crowe-led supernatural thriller “The Pope’s Exorcist” is officially in the works.

Speaking on X, Katz said: “Amorth Nation – I just got the call. IT’S OFFICIALLY HAPPENING!!! ‘E un seguito, amici miei.’ [It’s a sequel, my friends.] Thank you to the amazing #ThePopesExorcist fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta – and get ready to ride.”

Julius Avery directed the first film which made $77 million from an $18 million budget and was inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, chief exorcist of the Vatican.

It follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.

The confirmation of a sequel comes a full year after Bloody Disgusting first reported that Screen Gems was beginning to develop a sequel to the film with Crowe expected to reprise his role as Father Gabriele Amorth in the sequel.

There’s been little in the way of news since then, short of Crowe being revealed as joining the unrelated “The Exorcism” film.
