The long-gestating live-action “Masters of the Universe” movie is moving forward with Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films announcing plans for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5th 2026.
Travis Knight (“Kubo and the Two Strings,” “Bumblebee) will direct this film adaptation of the franchise with Chris Butler writing the screenplay. He succeeds from earlier scripts written by David Callaham along with Aaron and Adam Nee.
The story introduces a ten-year-old Prince Adam, who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword – the only link to his home on Eternia.
After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor.
But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!
Casting has yet to be announced. Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing.
Netflix spent nearly $30 million developing a He-Man film which had Kyle Allen announced to star, but the project appeared to be scrapped back in July last year.
By late last year, Amazon MGM Studios was keen for to bring He-Man to the big screen and now they’ve set a timetable.
