Disney+ aired the seventh episode of its “X-Men ’97” revival this week, the lead up to a three-episode arc story that begins on May 1st and closes out the ten-episode season.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “X-MEN ’97”

That seventh episode, “Bright Eyes,” finally revealed the big bad of the season – showing it to be Sebastion Gilberti/Bastion (voiced by Theo James) who was behind numerous actions including the Genosha massacre.

In the wake of that reveal, series creator and former showrunner Beau DeMayo says the character as been hiding in plain sight in nearly every episode of the revival:

“Bastion has been manipulating things all along, and thus has been in every episode except for Episode 3. Can you find him? Correction: except 3 (although he is HEAVILY referenced by Sinister) and Episode 6. I just had my morning coffee and can’t count. The real prize is who can find him in episode 1.”

DeMayo also advised that fans should revisit the two-part “One Man’s Worth” episodes from the original “X-Men: The Animated Series” before diving into the “Tolerance Is Extinction” three-parter coming up on “X-Men ’97”.

“One Man’s Worth” was a two-part story arc featured early in the fourth season of the original series and sees future Sentinel Nimrod trying to travel back in time and assassinate a young Charles Xavier which leads to the “Age of Apocalypse” timeline.

The three-part “Tolerance Is Extinction” arc begins May 1st with the show’s season finale to air May 15th. “X-Men ’97” has already been renewed for a second season with early development work on a third season also said to be underway.
