Legendary “The West Wing” creator and acclaimed scribe Aaron Sorkin has confirmed he’s writing a new film about the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6th 2021.

Puck’s Matthew Belloni broke the news, reporting that Sorkin is penning the film which he is describing as a quasi-sequel to his script for David Fincher’s “The Social Network”.

The new one will “will trace the rise of misinformation-for-profit online… and the deadly consequences” that led to the riot in Washington D.C.

The event saw a mob of supporters of then-U.S. president Donald Trump, two months after his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, trying to keep him in power by occupying the Capitol and preventing a vote count to formalize the victory of President-elect Joe Biden.

Five people died over the space of 36 hours with many injured including nearly 200 cops. Damage caused by the event reportedly exceeded $2.7 million.

A full interview with Sorkin which includes discussion of the project is now online at Spotify and reportedly contains a quote from Sorkin: “I blame Facebook for January 6”.

Sorkin is coming off “Being the Ricardos,” “Molly’s Game,” and “Trial of the Chicago 7”.
