Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy is returning to cinemas this Summer. Warner Bros. Pictures and Fathom Events are teaming to bring the extended editions of the trilogy to cinemas.
More specifically the remastered versions of those editions which Jackson did in 2020 for the 4K UHD disc release are what’s being screened – the first time that version has been available on the big screen.
That version fixed the color timing of the trilogy to be more back in line with the original theatrical release, as opposed to the Blu-ray versions which added a slight green tint to the films.
The films will screen across three days at participating chains, like AMC, Cinemark and Regal starting with 2001’s “The Fellowship of the Ring” on June 8th, 2002’s “The Two Towers” on June 9th, and 2003’s “The Return of the King” on June 10th.
Tickets are now up on the Fathom Events site. The re-release comes as the ‘Rings’ franchise is having a bit of a resurgence later this year.
A second season of Prime Video’s big-budget drama series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is expected to release this Fall, whilst Warner Bros. Pictures will release the animated film “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” on December 13th.
