Oscar nominee LaKeith Stanfield (“Judas and the Black Messiah,” “Knives Out”) is in talks to both star in and produce a film adaptation of indie neo-noir video game “El Paso, Elsewhere”.
Released last year by developer Strange Scaffold, the third-person shooter draws inspiration from franchises like “Quake,” “Max Payne” and “Hotline Miami”.
In the film, Stanfield plays James Savage, a man recovering from a toxic relationship who confronts both his inner demons and an enigmatic ex-girlfriend, Janet, before she carries out a world-ending ritual.
James must navigate her reality-bending universe of ethereal monsters while facing the truth of his own addictions and skewed sense of self-worth – the only route to love being through healing.
The game was nominated for multiple awards including the New York Game Awards and the D.I.C.E. Awards. “Transformers” franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Colin Stark will produce the film adaptation.
Stanfield is coming off last year’s Disney ride adaptation “Haunted Mansion,” the religious dramedy “The Book of Clarence,” and the TV series “Changeling”. He’s currently filming Shane Black’s new film “Play Dirty”.
