Three years ago came word that “Godzilla vs. Kong” director Adam Wingard and his longtime writing partner Simon Barrett were working on a sequel to 1997’s John Woo-directed action feature “Face/Off”.
Then last year, Wingard indicated he would only make the film if the original cast returned – namely actors John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. He also said the plan is to do a “real follow-up, not just like some fan service movie”.
Well, scooper Daniel Richtman is now reporting that both stars will be back to reprise their roles of Sean Archer (Travolta) and Castor Troy (Cage) respectively. No further details were offered or potential production start date.
The original followed an FBI special agent and a sociopathic freelance terrorist who end up surgically swapping faces – the arch-enemies get caught up in a race against time to keep the other from destroying their life.
Barrett has also previously discussed how he doesn’t believe Cage’s Castor Troy character actually died in the film’s finale.
Joan Allen, Alessandro Nivola, Gina Gershon, Dominque Swain, Nick Cassavetes, Harve Presnell, Colm Feore, and John Carroll Lynch co-starred in the original which earned $245 million globally.
