Paramount Pictures launched the first trailer for its animated feature Transformers One after launching the live stream into space as part of the publicity blitz. Stars Chris Hemsworth (Optimus Prime) and Brian Tyree Henry (Megatron) appeared to introduce the trailer.
Transformers One is one of those origin stories, going backward to tell you the “untold story” about something you didn’t need to know, answering questions nobody asked, in the process no doubt peppering in ‘memberberries while driving the entire narrative of the franchise into a creative cul-de-sac.
Hey, this is Hollywood, and just because something has completely failed to work eleventy-nine times before doesn’t mean they can’t try again, right?
This time, they will explore the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron before they became sworn enemies. Instead, they were friends, bonded like brothers, who changed the fate of Cybertron forever.
The first-ever fully CG-animated Transformers movie features Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion, and Steve Buscemi.
The trailer seems to show them going somewhere new, and getting something of an old, wise dude that makes them feel fantastic and unlocks all sorts of things for them. Is this an allegory about a teenager’s first time at a music festival?
The film is directed by Josh Cooley with a script from Andrew Barrer, Steve Desmond, and Gabriel Ferrari. Lorenzo di Bonaventura produces. It is planned as the start of a potential trilogy.
Transformers One release on September 20th.
