Earlier this week came the news that legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese was working on a new Frank Sinatra biopic which aimed to star Leonardo DiCaprio as Sinatra and Jennifer Lawrence as Ava Gardner.
According to World of Reel, Frank’s oldest daughter and accomplished singer Nancy Sinatra apparently doesn’t approve going by the tone of a recent social media posting.
Sinatra retweeted an image of her father and his wife, Ava Gardner, on Twitter with the original tweet captioned “Sorry Leo and JLaw, you will never be them.”
Scorsese was previously looking to make a biopic of Sinatra back in 2014 but was blocked by his estate. A few years later he indicated to The Toronto Sun that the block was likely tied to Scorsese not wanting to hold anything back about Sinatra’s life:
“Certain things are very difficult for a family, and I totally understand, but if they expect me to be doing it they can’t hold back certain things. The problem is that the man was so complex. Everybody is so complex — but Sinatra in particular.”
No studio is yet attached to the project, but Sony was said to be the current frontrunner in the report the other day.
Sinatra’s daughter, Tina Sinatra, controls her late father’s estate and has not yet approved the project.
