Keanu Reeves is in talks to star in Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund’s highly anticipated new film “The Entertainment System Is Down”.
The new project is coming off Östlund’s success with “Triangle of Sadness,” the dark comedy social satire which marked his English-language debut and won the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2022.
It went on to become a Best Picture Oscar nominee. Before that Östlund was celebrated for his 2017 film “The Square” and 2014 feature “Force Majeure”.
This is a similar blend of black comedy/social satire but this time is set on a long-haul flight on which the entertainment system isn’t working, sparking chaos and rage among passengers.
Reeves will be part of an ensemble cast that will likely involve several international stars. Last year he described the film a study of human interaction onboard “this little laboratory that is a plane”.
He added at the time that he hopes it will cause the biggest walkout in the history of Cannes Film Festival.
