It’s official, Netflix has announced that its lavish fantasy series “The Witcher” will come to an end with the show’s fifth season.

The streaming giant released a video announcing the start of production on the show’s fourth season which marks the first without original series star Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.

Instead, Liam Hemsworth takes over the role for the new season and the video shows him and the rest of the cast participating in a table read for the new run – Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Freya Allan (Ciri) and Joey Batey (Jaskier) can also be seen.

The caption includes the news of the show ending with its fifth season. The fourth and fifth seasons will reportedly be shot back-to-back and will likely adapt the remaining books – “Baptism of Fire,” “The Tower of Swallows,” and “The Lady of the Lake”.

Newcomers to the new run include Laurence Fishburne as barber-surgeon Regis, Sharlto Copley as bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, James Purefoy Skellen, and Danny Woodburn as dwarf Zoltan.

As production is only now getting underway, don’t expect the fourth season to hit the streamer anytime before the back half of 2025.

It’s official, The Witcher season 4 is in production. But that’s not all, we’re already planning season 5, which will be the final season and bring this epic show to a fitting conclusion. See you on The Continent. pic.twitter.com/c0ilUCWYkF
