By The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences have announced semi-finalists in ten categories for the upcoming Oscars ceremony.
Fifteen movies each are moving forward in the categories of International Feature Film, Documentary Feature, Original Song, Music Score, and the short-film categories.
The list cuts down to a shorter ten movies each for the categories of Sound, Visual Effects, and Makeup & Hairstyling.
The choices are already baffling in some cases – “Barbie” didn’t make the final ten for Makeup & Hairstyling? “Peaches” from “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” didn’t make the fifteen final songs?
Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” led the list with five nominations follows by Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and J.A. Bayona’s “Society of the Snow” with four nominations each. Also faring well were “Oppenheimer,” “The Color Purple,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “The Zone Of Interest,” “Poor Things” and “Napoleon” which all landed three nominations each.
Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 23rd and ABC is set to air the ceremony on March 10th. Here’s the lists
