There are marketing stunts, and then there is this marketing stunt. Paramount Pictures is set to debut the first trailer for Transformers One tomorrow… in spaaaaaaace!
The first trailer for the animated movie will be released after a 6am start (US-PT) tomorrow. There will be a live-streamed countdown. Over the course of the countdown, the trailer itself will ascend to 125,000 feet above the earth. From there it will screen with a special introduction by the film’s stars Chris Hemsworth (Optimus Prime) and Brian Tyree Henry (Megatron).
Exactly how this will work is unclear in the press releases and commentary, so we guess somebody will just have to tune in and tell us how it all goes.
You will be able to view the stream live on the official Transformers Movie social media accounts, on Paramount’s YouTube channel, and on Hemsworth’s own Instagram account.
Outposters of a certain age will still carry the scars of viewing Transformers: The Movie at a young age. For many of us, it was as heartbreaking as ET and was one of our first lessons in death, alongside that time our goldfish went to live on a farm.
Despite the deep psychological scars, the quality of that movie means certain receptors fire in an Outposters brain when there is news of an animated Transformers movie.
Transformers One will explore the origins of the Autobot and Decepticon rivalry on Cybertron, exploring the early friendship and eventual fallout of Optimus Prime and Megatron. The cast is packed. Alongsidethe tweo leads, it features Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
The film is directed by Josh Cooley, and the script written by Andrew Barrer, Steve Desmond, and Gabriel Ferrari.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura produces the animated prequel which is planned to serve as part one of a potential trilogy.
Transformers One gets a wide release on September 12th.
