Recently, a fake fan-made trailer for the next James Bond film racked up millions of views on YouTube.
A big reason for this was the thumbnail image which took a still from Amazon’s “Citadel” series and put Henry Cavill and Margot Robbie’s faces on the leads. The trailer itself is mostly a hodgepodge of footage from other films.
However, it highlights Cavill as Bond, something that was a distinct possibility almost twenty years ago when the actor made the shortlist to play Bond in “Casino Royale” before Daniel Craig secured the role.
With Bond casting coming around again, Cavill’s name is coming up as a possibility. Out promoting Guy Ritchie’s WW2 caper movie “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” he was asked by The Rich Eisen Show (via THR) if there was any chance of him getting a call from EON to try out again for the part.
He says he doesn’t know, but unlike some others of late (eg. Taron Egerton), he hasn’t ruled himself out from taking the part:
“I have no idea. All I’ve got to go off is the rumors. The same information you have. Maybe I’m too old now, maybe I’m not. It’s up to [producers] Barbara Broccoli and Mike Wilson and we’ll see what their plans are.”
Cavill was deemed to have lost the role for “Casino Royale” because he was deemed too young at the time (very early twenties). Cavill is now forty, which is older than the ‘early thirties’ age producers Broccoli and Wilson are said to be looking at.
