In the wake of the success of recent game-to-screen adaptations like HBO’s “The Last of Us” and Amazon’s “Fallout,” Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard was asked about the chances of a TV series based on another key property.
Speaking to IGN on the red carpet premiere of “Fallout” earlier this week, Howard addressed the possibility of a series based on Bethesda’s biggest non-“Fallout” franchise – “The Elder Scrolls”.
Howard says there are no plans to rush forward on an adaptation but aren’t against doing one if the material is right and they all had a blast doing this one:
“Everybody asks, like, about Elder Scrolls, and I keep saying no also. You never know if someone’s going to click. I think this [Fallout] really came out of, ‘we think things are aligning to do a high-quality job.’ It wasn’t forced.
I can’t predict the future, but this has been one of the most enjoyable projects I’ve ever done, and we’re just over the moon, everybody in the studio with seeing it this way.”
The comments come as fans await a sixth entry in “The Elder Scrolls” franchise with that game, announced in 2018, unlikely to debut until the very late 2020s as it’s still in development. The previous entry, ‘Skyrim’, released in 2011.
Tee games unfold on the continent of Tamriel – a pre-medieval society with limited technology, widespread magic use, and the existence of many mythological creatures. The series has sold more than 58 million copies worldwide.
