Captain America: Brave New World showed off some footage for the first time at CinemaCon and the star of the movie, Anthony Mackie, was on hand to give more information. He said not to expect this as simply a continuation of Falcon And The Winter Soldier.
Sam has moved on as a character and as the new custodian of that shield.
“One of the biggest conversations we had from the beginning was for this not to be Falcon and the Winter Soldier – Part 2, for this to be its own movie with its own story, with its own characters.
It made more sense for it to be more of a grounded espionage action movie as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and s—.
Even though I’ve been in so many of them and have seen it all now, the opportunity for Sam to really establish himself as a true action star and Avenger comes with this movie.
Do we need to go back and watch Falcon and the Winter Soldier again? Or even the 2008 The Incredible Hulk, as there are big links?
“This movie is a clear reset. It really reestablishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be. I think with these movies, you’re getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier… It is a new storyline with new characters, with new beliefs, and it creates a new idea of this new world that we’re going into.”
Filming took place from March to June 2023 at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with additional filming in Washington, D.C. The subtitle was changed to Brave New World during filming. In December 2023 new material was written for reshoots that ran from May to August 2024. These were allegedly part of the Marvel retooling of the MCU to course correct after the disastrous Phase 4.
Captain America: Brave New World lands in theaters on February 14th 2025, as part of Marvel’s delayed Phase 5.
