Paramount Pictures is teaming with “Fast and Furious” producer Neal H. Moritz to resurrect the “Scary Movie” film franchise.
The next feature in the series will go into production this Fall with plans for a theatrical release in 2025.
The comedy series lampooned horror movies like “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” in its initial two outings before expanding to lampoon pop culture at large in the latter sequels.
The first four films released between 2000 & 2006 with the fifth in 2013 being the franchise weakest entry commercially.
That said, there’s plenty of new material for a new film to mine following the success of recent horror titles like “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” “Smile” and “M3GAN”.
The new entry is also part of the Paramount’s first look partnership with Miramax with the latter set to fully finance whilst Paramount handles distribution.
