Emmy winner Julia Garner (Ozark) has signed on to play the Silver Surfer in Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four. She will play the Shalla-Bal version of the character. It is thought the character will remain as the herald of the planet-devouring entity Galactus.
A female Silver Surfer has been rumored for many months. Anya Taylor-Joy was mentioned for both this role and for Sue Storm. In the comics, several women have served as heralds of Galactus.
Garner joins the already set major cast. Pedro Pascal is Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby is Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn is Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is Ben Grimm (aka the Thing).
Fantastic Four will be directed by WandaVision and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters producer Matt Shakman. Shooting starts at Pinewood Studios just outside London this Summer, and the movie is expected to launch in May 2025 in theaters.
Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Eric Pearson, and Ian Springer wrote the latest version of the script. Garner will next appear in the Blumhouse and Universal remake of The Wolfman.
The big question remains, how the hell do you pull off Galactus in live-action and not make it dopey AF ?
