Filmmaker Jeff Wadlow has confirmed that the third “Sonic the Hedgehog” has wrapped filming ahead of its planned Christmas 2024 release.
Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Idris Elba will reprise their voice roles of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles respectively alongside James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Lee Majdoub and Tom Butler.
Additionally, Jim Carrey will reprise his role as the mad scientist Dr. Robotnik, despite the character seemingly perishing in the prior film and Carrey having essentially retired from filmmaking.
They will be joined in this outing by Krysten Ritter, James Wolk, Alyla Browne, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone.
The two films to date have pulled in $870.8 million, even with the first one slightly hobbled by the pandemic, so Paramount is keen to continue.
Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara and Hitoshi Okuno produce. The film will come after the “Knuckles” spin-off TV series which launches in full on the Paramount+ service on April 26th.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” opens in cinemas December 20th.
