Courteney Cox is reportedly in talks to reprise the role of Gale Weathers in the seventh movie of the “Scream” franchise.
“Scream” creator and writer Kevin Williamson will direct this outing with the Cox hiring news coming just two weeks after original franchise lead Neve Campbell announced she was coming back as Sidney Prescott.
The franchise’s planned seventh installment went up in smoke last year after Spyglass fired star Melissa Barrera over social media posts, whilst Jenna Ortega dropped out due to apparent scheduling conflicts.
Subsequently director Christopher Landon also exited the project that was engulfed in bad buzz, leaving Spyglass little choice but to likely give Campbell a big payout to return (she sat out “Scream VI” due to a salary dispute).
Williamson, who penned the first, second and fourth films, will make his directing debut on the new film which now serves as something of a reunion of the original gang.
It’s not clear as yet if Mason Gooding or Jasmin Savoy Brown will reprise their sibling characters from the previous two films.
