Filmmaker and DC Studios chief James Gunn has taken time out from filming “Superman” to debunk a recent DCU casting rumor gaining traction online.
That rumor? That the “Peacemaker” spin-off series “Waller,” starring Viola Davis as A.R.G.U.S. director Amanda Waller, is rumored to have cast “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” “Kong: Skull Island” and “24: Legacy” actor Corey Hawkins as agent Dale Gunn in the series.
Gunn succinctly shot down the talk, saying in a social media post on Threads that the “Waller” series is far too early in development to start any casting: “Scripts aren’t finished. Haven’t started the casting process. (So no).”
The Hawkins rumor reportedly originated from a piece on the Medium.com website, a piece no longer there. It follows several false casting reports regarding the DCU and especially “Superman”.
What the “Waller” spin-off will involve, beyond Davis’ Amanda Waller, isn’t clear. The character has been portrayed thus far as a ruthless government official who runs the Suicide Squad.
The series will hail from Christal Henry (HBO’s “Watchmen”) and Jeremy Carver (“Supermatural,” “Doom Patrol”). Filming on the second season of “Peacemaker” begins in May.
