Don’t expect a fourth “Ant-Man” film anytime in the near future.
Appearing on the red carpet for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” actor Paul Rudd was asked by THR about slipping back into his size-shifting supersuit again.
He tells the outlet he hads no clue, but someone at Marvel would know: “I have no idea. I don’t know. Yeah, that’s not for me to answer, you’d have to go to Kevin. Feige and those guys.”
Rudd took on the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2015 and has headlined three standalone “Ant-Man” films so far, last year’s third entry a more costly affair that ended up getting panned, flopping at the box-office (albeit a still sizable $463.6 million global haul), and a poster child of the various issues with Marvel’s post-production pipeline.
The comment follows a series of reports online in recent weeks that Disney doesn’t want to pursue either a fourth “Ant-Man” or third “Captain Marvel” following those franchise’s disappointing box-office last year.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has already indicated a slow down in the rollout of Marvel Studios titles and have “killed a few projects already” they “didn’t feel were strong enough”. The result is Disney seems less likely to take risks on unsure things when it comes to the MCU.
Whilst an “Ant-Man 4” seems unlikely at this point, Rudd potentially returning to the role for another film certainly seems quite possible.
