Back in January we reported that Wolf Man had cast its leads. Now Jason Blum has taken to social media to announce that filming has started. Produced by Blumhouse and directed by Leigh Whannell, it’s another of the Universal Horrors to get a remake. Whannell recently remade The Invisible Man (2020). He also directed Outpost favorite Upgrade (2018).

The Invisible Man remake was pretty good. Starring Elisabeth Moss, it was a new take on H.G. Wells’ original story. If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth a watch. The story for the Wolf Man is:
A man must protect himself and his family when they are being stalked, terrorized, and haunted by a deadly werewolf at night during a full moon.
The only cast members publically confirmed at the moment are Christopher Abbott and Julie Garner. The writers, Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum are both known for Orange is the New Black and Dumb Money. The latter was, again, a pretty good movie.
Originally the Wolf Man was pitched by Ryan Gosling, with the idea expanded by Angelo and Schuker Blum. The idea was to have it set in the present and in the vein of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nightcrawler, but with a supernatural twist.
Werewolf? There Wolf
I think we’ve mentioned this before, but has there ever really been a good version of Wolf Man? We’ve had some great werewolf movies, but the original Wolf Man wasn’t all that great. In 2010 there was also a version starring Benicio Del Torro, but I don’t remember it being very good.
Jack Nicholson starred in Wolf (1994) which was a very loose retelling of the same story, and that movie was also pretty forgettable.
Wolf Man is due out on the 25th of October, just in time for Halloween. This sounds fast.
