Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part Two has reportedly grossed $494.7 million globally with $208 million from North America and $289.4 million internationally at the box office. By the time the dust settles on the past weekend, it will have passed the $500 million mark.
This makes it the highest-grossing film of the year so far at both the domestic and worldwide box office, and means it has outgrossed its predecessor.
Dune Part Two has been boosted by an over $100 million haul from IMAX screens alone. It is expected to eventually turn a tidy profit for Warner Bros. and probably makes a third installment all but inevitable.
Elswhere, the Mark Wahlberg-led Arthur the King made its debut and pulled in nearly $8 million domestically. That was enough for a 3rd place debut. It still didn’t trouble Kung Fu Panda 4 and Dune: Part Two in first and second place with less than $1 million separating them.
Kung Fu Panda 4 is looking to land around $30 million in its second weekend, a drop of less than 46%. Dune: Part Two is closing in on $29.1 million, and the drop of just 38% is good for entering the 4th week.
Blumhouse’s Imaginary will be fourth with $5.3 million (down 46%), whilst Angel Studios’ Cabrini will be fifth with $2.8 million.
Love Lies Bleeding and The American Society of Magical Negroes underperformed expectations.
