Just over a week ago came the news that Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, J.K. Simmons, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson had all closed deals to return for a sequel to 2016’s “The Accountant” at Amazon MGM Studios.
The studio certainly isn’t wasting any time it seems. During a recent interview with Collider to promote the final few episodes of the second season of “Invincible,” J.K. Simmons revealed that shooting on the film will begin very soon:
“I head to Los Angeles in a little over a week to do some rehearsals and pre-production and start shooting my chunk of it. I’m not even sure, I think they start early next week, because then I’m in the week after and doing my supporting thing.”
The possibility of a sequel has lingered for years but the project never really seemed to gather any momentum. Now, all of a sudden, it’s rocketing forward.
Filmmaker Gavin O’Connor returns to direct from a script penned again by Bill Dubuque.
Affleck stars as Christian Wolff, a highly skilled accountant with autism who moonlights as a forensic accountant for criminal organizations.
The sequel begins when Addai-Robinson’s character’s former boss (Simmons) is killed by unknown assassins, and she’s forced to contact Christian to solve the murder.
With the help of his estranged but highly lethal brother Brax (Bernthal), Chris applies his unique mind and less-than-legal methods to piece together the unsolved puzzle. They soon draw the attention of some of the most ruthless killers alive.
Affleck, Matt Damon, Mark Williams and Lynette Howell Taylor will produce.
