The Mark Wahlberg-led “Arthur the King,” a true story feel-good drama involving a dog and a lot of walking, is looking to pull in just shy of $8 million in its debut weekend.
The film, which earned a stellar A CinemaScore and mixed critical reviews, cost $20 million to make which means it’s a solid start for the movie which will need legs to do well.
It couldn’t compete with “Kung Fu Panda 4” and “Dune: Part Two” which remained on top at the box-office in a close race for first.
“Kung Fu Panda 4” is eyeing a $31.5 million second weekend gross – just a 46% drop from its $57.9 million debut. It will surpass the $100 million domestic total by the end of this weekend, already overtaking its $85 million production budget.
“Dune: Part Two” is tracking for a $29 million third weekend – a drop of just 38%. By end of weekend it will hit the $205 million domestic mark.
Blumhouse’s “Imaginary” is expected to come in fourth with $5.3 million (down 46%), whilst Angel Studios’ “Cabrini” will be fifth with $2.8 million – a drop of 60% which suggests they don’t have another “Sound of Freedom” on their hands.
“Love Lies Bleeding” and “The American Society of Magical Negroes” went semi-wide soft results – the former taking in $2.75 million (and great reviews), the latter doing just $1.25 million (and poor reviews).
