Filmmaker David Leitch and producer Kelly McCormick have offered an update on the sequels to the well-regarded action features “Nobody” and “Violent Night” at Universal Pictures.
Both Leitch and McCormick produced both films with Leitch directing “Nobody”. The film’s respective stars Bob Odenkirk and David Harbour are both keen to return.
Speaking with Collider whilst promoting “The Fall Guy” at SXSW, McCormick says that the scripts are currently being written, with several drafts completed however there’s “still a little work to do”.
Development is moving well into pre-production and everyone, including Universal is excited for the potential franchises for both movies. In fact, she indicates filming could begin before year’s end:
“We are planning on returns to those universes. Hopefully, honestly, even potentially end of this year for Nobody 2 and, beginning of next year for Violent Night 2, if we can find time in everybody’s busy schedules. But the development’s going super well and everybody’s really, really excited about moving those worlds forward.”
“Nobody” features Bob Odenkirk as Hutch Mansell, an underestimated and overlooked dad and husband taking a dark turn into his assassin past after a burglary incident.
“Violent Night” sees David Harbour as an alcoholic, depressive Santa Claus who fights mercenaries from the Russian Mafia who have taken a family hostage.
