“Midsommar,” “Hereditary” and “Beau Is Afraid” filmmaker Ari Aster has announced that filming has begun on his next film, a ‘Western-noir dark ensemble comedy’ called “Eddington” which has been set up at A24.
The film has landed a very strong cast including Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, and Clifton Collins Jr.
Set during the pandemic, the story centers on a couple on a road trip through New Mexico to Los Angeles where they run out of gas outside of a small town named Eddington.
They decide to enter the town for help, and are greeted warmly and treated nicely at first. But the picturesque setting soon turns dark and nightmarish when nightfall arrives.
Stone and Phoenix are expected to play the couple, the pair previously having done so for Woody Allen’s “Irrational Man” a decade ago.
Shooting is now underway in New Mexico with Oscar-winning cinematographer Darius Khondji lensing the film which is expected out sometime in 2025.
