Following Jennifer Holland’s indication that the second season of Max’s “Peacemaker” would film this Summer, series creator James Gunn has taken to Threads to clear up questions regarding its story and production timelines.
As we know, the DC Studios co-chief is currently directing his new “Superman” film which is expected to shoot through until late Summer with facilities in places booked until late August.
As a result, “Peacemaker” will begin production on its second season whilst Gunn is shooting “Superman”. The director says he’s already prepared for that, and as a result he won’t be directing as many episodes as he did in the first season:
“We’ll be shooting Superman & Peacemaker simultaneously; yes, I’ve written all the episodes; but, no, in the interest of getting the show out there I won’t be able to direct them all (only some).”
He also gave a status update on “Waller,” the series focusing on Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller character:
“Yes, Waller’s still happening & Jeremy & Christal are hard at work writing great stuff, but the schedule was impacted by the strikes so it’ll come after Peacemaker.”
Both shows involve characters from the prior DCEU, so what’s going on with the canon? Gunn confirms both these shows will take place entirely within the new DCU canon. Even so, many of the story threads will remain the same:
“S2 is full DCU not DCEU… Season one isn’t canon… Many strands will remain consistent, yes, insofar as Peacemaker’s story goes…. Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events in Superman. Everything in Waller will take place after Peacemaker.”
With “Peacemaker” filming this Summer, it would seem a 2025 release for the second season is in the cards and “Waller” will likely not be until 2026.
