Aussie horror “Talk To Me” breakout star Sophie Wilde is reportedly in talks to star in “Watch Dogs,” a live-action film adaptation of the popular UbiSoft video game series in the works at New Regency.
The story unfolds in fictionalized versions of real-life modern day cities which are all run by ctOS, a computing network which manages the control of all major infrastructure systems across entire cities from electricity grids to traffic control systems.
The games follow hacker protagonists caught up in the criminal underworlds of their respective cities who are able to use their phone as a means to both lift people’s personal data and manipulate the environment around them from door locks to street lights.
The games have had over 50 million players over the course of three entries to date. This film version is being directed by acclaimed French genre director Mathieu Turi, from an original screenplay written by Christie LeBlanc (“Oxygen”).
Margaret Boykin, Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann will produce. Specifics of the film version or Wilde’s character are under wraps.
Ubisoft has several film adaptations of their properties in development including films based on “The Division” and “Splinter Cell”.
