There’s no Marvel film in early May this year. Instead, the Summer movie season will kick off with the Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt-led action comedy “The Fall Guy”.
Gosling stars as Colt Seavers, a stuntman/action choreographer tasked with finding a missing action star for a production being directed by his ex-girlfriend.
The film is inspired by the 1980s TV series and whilst it’s still a while off from premiering, a small number of people have gotten to see it early – one of them being filmmaking juggernaut Steven Spielberg.
Speaking with Variety, Gosling revealed details about his encounter with the “Jaws” and “Munich” director recently:
“I saw Steven Spielberg walking in my direction. I don’t know Steven Spielberg. I thought there’s no way he’s coming to talk to me.
And yet he kept getting closer, and then I thought I know what’s going to happen. I’m going to point to him, and he’s going to go, ‘Not you, behind you,’ so I’m not going to do that. Finally I said, ‘Me?’ and he goes, ‘Yeah you.’
I go, ‘I’m sorry I didn’t think you were coming to talk to me.’ And I stood up and he gave me a hug and said, ‘I just saw Fall Guy and I loved it.’
As far as I’m concerned it doesn’t matter anymore what happens. Steven Spielberg liked it. That was an all time moment for me. I’m really excited for people to see it. I think it’s a really special movie.”
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, and Stephanie Hsu co-star in the David Leitch-directed film which will be released in theaters on May 3rd.
Gosling will participate in the Oscars this coming Sunday to sing “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie during the broadcast. His stage number reportedly will see him accompanied by 65 backup dancers – making it one of the biggest Best Song numbers ever performed on the Oscars.
