David Castaneda (“The Umbrella Academy”) and Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Dune”) has joined the cast of the female-driven “John Wick” spinoff “Ballerina” at Lionsgate. Character specifics are under wraps.
The film was shot over a year ago and was originally slated for June 7th this year. It is now set to open June 6th 2025, with the delay to accomodate the filming of additional action sequences.
In addition, Chad Stahelski, who helmed the main “John Wick” franchise, will be guiding those new sequences alongside director Len Wiseman.
Ana de Armas stars as a young female assassin (Ana de Armas) trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.
Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves co-star.
The news comes as Stahelski and his 87Eleven Entertainment label have officially struck a multi-year first-look production deal with Lionsgate – focusing on original action movies and projects. A few weeks back he also took on a major role overseeing both the “John Wick” and “Highlander” franchises going forward.
