Filmmaker Zack Snyder has offered an update on when the director’s cuts of his two-part sci-fi epic “Rebel Moon” are arriving.
Netflix opted to release the PG-13 theatrical cut of the first part back in December with the second part coming in April. At some point down the line later this year it’s expected the R-rated longer versions of each would arrive.
Now, in a new interview with I Minutemen, Snyder gave an update and confirmed both film’s director’s cuts will be released simultaneously. As for when, that’s still up in the air but there’s a rough idea in place: “We don’t have a date yet, but I think it’s going to be, you know, in the summer.”
Snyder adds that the film’s “reach like about an hour longer than the original” and the two director’s cuts combine for a total of “six hours together”.
The theatrical cut of the first part opened to scathing reviews, something those involved in the film are aware of. Sofia Boutella, who leads the films, told this week Vulture: “It really affected me for all of those who put so much heart, tears, and sweat in this project. It’s hard to see something being demolished to that extent. I’m proud to have been part of it, and if there is no more ‘Rebel Moon,’ it will be a very important part of my life that I will defend forever.”
The theatrical cut of “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver” is set to screen on the streamer on April 19th.
