Rather than delaying it as some expected, Sony Pictures has actually moved up the release of its fourth “Bad Boys” film by a week – the movie is now slated to open June 7th this year rather than June 14th.

The move sees the Will Smith-Martin Lawrence-led action film joining the weekend previously held and recently vacated by the “John Wick” spin-off “Ballerina”.

Lionsgate moved its reboot of “The Crow” into that June 7th slot after “Ballerina” vacated it, but it’s not considered as high-profile a project. In addition, Sony will have IMAX and PLF runs for the film taking it on that weekend.

The move also gets it clear of Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” opening on June 14th which is expected to be massive.

The question is, can they make it? Filming on the movie began in early April last year in Atlanta and continued through until July when the strikes halted it.

Much of the film was shot, but not all and additional filming kicked off in Florida this past weekend with shooting expected to continue for at least a week.

Shooting took place on Fort Lauderdale Beach today and will continue to the downtown Miami and Brickell areas this week. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah helms the film which also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Núnez, Jacob Scipio, Eric Dane and Ioan Gruffudd.
