Legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog is not a fan of what he’s seen fo “Barbie” it seems.
The iconic German director of films such as “Grizzly Man” and “Aguirre, The Wrath of God” appears on the “Piers Morgan: Uncensored” program when the host asks if he’s “on Team Barbie or Team Oppenheimer”.
He’s on neither it seems. He first said he has not seen Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” yet, but he “will do it”. Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” on the other hand he started but didn’t get far:
“‘Barbie,’ I managed to see the first half hour, and I was curious. I wanted to watch it because I was curious. And I still don’t have an answer, but I have a suspicion. Could it be that the world of ‘Barbie’ is sheer hell? For a movie ticket, as an audience, you can witness sheer hell, as close as it gets.”
After Morgan got into a positive tizzy over the seeming diss of the film, even as it wasn’t exactly clear what Herzog was saying, the director admits he needs more time with the film before he can make a proper assessment:
“I don’t know yet. Give me a moment to watch the whole thing. I have to watch the whole thing first.”
The comments follow on from director Oliver Stone famously slamming the film sight unseen before later apologizing after seeing it and found “the filmmakers’ approach certainly different than what I expected”.
“Barbie” has eight Oscar nominations, including a Best Picture nod, at the Oscars which are handed out next month.
