Don’t you just love it when you know absolutely nothing about a movie? That somehow its entire existence had passed you by, and then suddenly there is a trailer and it looks like exactly the right kind of stupid mayhem we all need sometimes? This happened to me today, and that movie is Boy Kills World.

Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have released the trailer for the movie that stars Bill Skarsgard, Famke Janssen, Jessica Rothe, Andrew Koji, and Michelle Dockery. It is directed by German filmmaker Moritz Mohr with Sam Raimi and Roy Lee producing.

Apparently, this movie tore up the Toronto Film Festival last year and gained good reviews. Note to self, pay more attention to Canadian film festivals.

Yayan Ruhian, Isaiah Mustafa, Sharlto Copley, and Brett Gelman co-star in the film in which Skarsgard plays Boy, a deaf-mute with a vivid imagination and an inner voice, a voice he adopted from a video game. It just works, OK!

Boy vows revenge for the murder of his family by the Van Der Koy family, lead by their sadistic mother Hilda in some kind of post-apocalyptic world. After spending his life training for this task under a mysterious shamen in the jungle, he returns to the city to enact his vengeance.

Filming took place in South Africa. The whole project was born from Mohr pitching Boy Kills World to Sam Raimi and Roy Lee via a short pre-vis reel. This brought Raimi Productions and Vertigo Entertainment on-board, who then roped in Nitbah Pictures and Hammerstone Studios to co-producer.  Orion Pictures was initially involved but dropped out following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boy Kills World will open in cinemas everywhere on April 26th.
